I am Wendy Hug, an American Kennel Club Evaluator including AKC Canine Good Citizen & AKC Community Canine Good Citizen Titles.

I have been rescuing and training dogs for over 25 years, and it is now my full-time profession. After all, who doesn't want a well-mannered dog!

I find it disturbing because most people have what they feel are "bad" dogs and end up surrendering them! This is why most of them end up in shelters, with a poor future in sight.

Fortunately, there is help available for both of you! That's where I come in. I offer obedience training through Dini Gives Back. Once pet parents and their dogs graduate from my classes, you will have a whole new dog! My instruction approach is unique in that it aims for 50/50 training - 50% for you, and 50% for your dog. I give you the tools to work with, which in turn allows you to help your dog. It's a win-win! Remember, all your dog really wants to do is please you, and it is up to you as a responsible pet parent to show your dog how!

Dogs are like humans in the respect that they all need "jobs" to do to feel important. The way that I help them fulfill this is by having them do "therapy" work. The dogs I work with visit Assisted Living Facilities, including the memory care units. There is nothing more rewarding than watching the residents respond to our "Dini's Friends" visits!  The local independent school districts are on our schedule. If this is something that you might be interested in pursuing, I am pleased to tell you that I started registering Therapy Dogs in the summer of 2017. The options available for your dog to help the community are endless!

One of my endeavors is learning American Sign Language to help hearing disabled clients and deaf dogs via signed commands. That way, everyone can communicate on the same level.
